Leaving Chattanooga was hard. We love the city so much! But, part of “Living Anywhere on Airbnb” is the anywhere part… so I can’t wait to share my next adventure with you!
On our way, we stopped in Memphis to check out the Mud Island Riverwalk! The Riverwalk is a scale replica of the Lower Mississippi River from Cairo, Illinois, to just south of New Orleans, Louisiana. Here you get to walk or roll along six states in the span of roughly five city blocks. This place was so cool. The Riverwalk ends at a million-gallon pool representing the Gulf of Mexico, surrounded by views of the river and downtown Memphis. During the warmer months, they fill this attraction with water, so you can splash as you go! Fun fact, this impressive display was constructed by casting nearly 2,000 individual pieces of concrete that were then put in place piece-by-piece. While it’s not as impressive as it once was, the complex used to be home to restaurants and a museum, it was still a fun daytime pit stop. There aren’t a lot of signs, so you just drive as far as you can north on Mud Island, and then follow the walkway. I had no trouble with my wheelchair, but our dog managed to fall into the “river” several times. So keep an eye on your less-than-graceful family members.
My favorite parts were the city roads marked around the river, as I was able to spot places I’ve visited in the past.
