Wafels and What?

Wafels and What?

You know me—in every place I explore, I’m always hunting for the best new food to try! This breakfast food sure got my mouth watering. With several locations around the city, Wafels & Dinges started as a food truck and is now a spot famous for Belgian waffles. They have outrageous and delicious toppings—known in Belgium as “dinges”—for their fresh waffles. This includes ice cream, whipped cream, fruit, chocolate, and much more. They even have candied bacon!

  • Anna, a teen girl sitting in her wheelchair is gesturing at the Wafels and Dinges kiosk behind her in the NYC park. She is wearing jeans and a denim jacket with a black fedora and yellow lower face mask. The kiosk is a muted green with yellow accents and signage.

  • A view of the Wafels and Dinges kiosk with the open pick up window in the center, signs on the right and a banner for ice cream on the left. You can see into the NYC park kiosk through the window, and there is stainless steel kitchen equipment with a staffer wearing a yellow ballcap while working in the rear.

  • Looking in through the pick up window at the Wafels and Dinges kiosk in a New York City park. Inside there is a worker wearing a bright yellow ballcap,, preparing a waffle and there are stacks of containers and bins of utensils. The kiosk outer walls are muted green and medium yellow.

  • But what makes these waffles so special? Wafels & Dinges serves up liège waffles, which they call “the other Belgian waffle.” It’s made with pearl sugar, which is made from beets and is an ingredient unique to Belgium. The pearls burst and caramelize when the dough is cooking, which produces a sweet, caramel-glazed waffle, that is dense rather than airy.

  • Anna, a teen girl sitting at patio seating at Wafels and Dinges in the park in New York City. She is wearing a denim jacket with a brown belt bag over her shoulder. She has on a black wide brim felt hat. She has an ice cream topped waffle in front of her and she is looking wide-eyed at the camera, as if astonished at how big of a size this treat is. There is also a coffee to-go cup and a water bottle on the table. She is wearing a bright yellow lower face mask.
  • A waffle from Wafels and Dinges topped with strawberries, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, choolate sauce drizzle and a sprinkle of powdered sugar. The to-go box is on top of a bright yellow patio table.

  • After finding a nice spot to sit at a table nearby, my mom and I dug into our huge, delectable waffles. We were at Wafels & Dinges’ Bryant Park location and found the area to be easily accessible. We were able to order at the counter and roll right to our table. I ate a waffle topped with chilly ice cream, soft whipped cream, sweet chocolate drizzle, and juicy strawberries. Let me tell you, this meal certainly didn’t disappoint!

In the mood for something else? They offer tasty hot cocoa that is also topped with fun things. Their hot drinks are served up with speculoos cookies, which are delicious gingerbread-type cookies. They even make up their own speculoos spread to add to the waffles. Whoa!

We were so full from our delicious waffles, that we couldn’t try their other treats. So I can’t wait to go back for more!
