While in Chicago, we decided to head to the city’s famous popcorn place─Garrett Popcorn. Ever since the business opened its doors in 1949, people have given it high acclaim with their reviews.
I wanted to see for myself the popcorn shop─and I was not disappointed!

Getting There:
We walked from Millenium park to the location at 4 East Madison, which is one of the many Garrett locations found around the city. Chicago’s streets are easy to navigate and smooth. All intersections have ramps, however, some of those ramps have an inclined bump at the end due to the ground not being raised. All it takes is a wheelie pop, but some of the bumps can be big, so it’s nice to have someone help you just in case. There were occasionally a few holes in the crosswalks, but they are easy to avoid.
Overall, the walk was an easy one, and we arrived after walking for about 10 minutes from the park.
The store itself is easy to enter, however, the line markers can make rolling through a bit narrow for big wheelchairs. At the time that we visited, Garrett enforced COVID-19 rules, allowing only 2 guests to enter at a time and masks must be worn—making the store safe to go to.
The Food:
When I heard how highly recommended this place was, I was excited to see if their popcorn truly was the best. It did not disappoint! Not only was it the best, but they had many more options than I was anticipating. Beyond the classics butter, caramel, and cheese popcorn, they had pecan caramel, macadamia caramel, cashew caramel, and many more!
Garrett makes sure that those with allergies and those who have specific food requirements can still enjoy this popular treat. They cater to vegans, vegetarians and offer gluten-free options, as well as other alternatives. And there is, of course, the famous Garrett Chicago mix, which combines caramel and cheese corn! It’s no secret as to why this popcorn has even been on Oprah’s favorite food list!
Pricing:
The food is flavorful and exciting, and luckily the prices aren’t too high. Small bags of popcorn will run you about $5 each, and they also have plenty of large gift tins you can fill up for more.
Seating:
While there is no seating in the store, plenty of options to sit can be found outside. If the weather is nice and breezy, why not sit at Millenium Park and look at the popular Bean, and enjoy the beautiful skyline of Chicago. While the weather was very nice out, we decided to head back to the hotel and rest up, taking our popcorn to go in their shopping bag. What a fun, tasty trip!

Final Thoughts:
Garrett Popcorn was a scrumptious adventure! From accessibility to varieties of flavors, to the popcorn itself, the famous business did not fail at delivering a perfect, unforgettable experience. Next time I come, I can treat my taste buds to new delicious flavors! It was the perfect shop to eat perfect popcorn.
