The most popular donut at Whoo’s Donuts is the Blue Corn Blueberry Lavender and, trust me, you definitely want to try one of these sweet, fluffy, muffin-like donuts with a blue corn crunch. Whoo’s Donuts is tucked away in a small Santa Fe strip center and is easy to overlook if you don’t know what you are looking for. They pride themselves on baking everything from scratch and using clean ingredients. While they have other bakery treats and even coffee and breakfast burritos, their donuts are the big draw. They are open every day from 7 am to 3 pm. The key is getting there before they sell out. Get there early, take them back to your Airbnb, and even go back to bed if you need to.
Listen to some of these flavors: Green Chile Apple Fritter, Orange Cardamom Cream, Blue Corn Maple Pecan, Lemon Pistachio, Red Chile Bacon Toffee, and Chocolate Galaxy. Those aren’t even the imaginative seasonal flavors like Raspberry Chipotle Blue Corn or Rosemary Almond. They do produce standard flavors too, in case you are not feeling brave in the morning.
Yes, this is wheelchair accessible. There is standard strip center pull-in parking in the front and there was a reserved placard space. There is a ramp to the sidewalk entrance. It’s not a large place, but you will have room to move a manual chair around and check the place out while you are there. They have a few small tables if you want to eat your donuts right away, each topped with a cheery jar of flowers. But most of the customers when we visited, including ourselves, were taking their treats to-go. They say that you can call ahead to be sure particular flavors are available, and upon meeting the owner the first time I visited, I’m sure they would go above and beyond for their customers. These Santa Fe donuts are very, very good. Don’t wait. Wake up and get over there!
You can find Whoo’s Donuts at 401 Old Santa Fe Trail in Santa Fe. All you’ll see from the street are plain signs that say “Donuts” and “Coins” with arrows. That’s your signal to turn into the parking lot.
