This is more than a Mexican restaurant. This is a dining experience! You are surrounded by beautiful gardens and are served in a white tablecloth environment. There are strolling musicians. At Christmas time there is an expansive creche displayed in the garden and you may observe a posada celebration or a birthday celebration with a pinata hanging in the trees. Their sister business La Mission is located in San Miguel, on Adolpho Rosado Salas, very close to the Benito Juarez park and the oceanfront. They share much of the same menu, but while the interior at La Mission is very attractive, there are no gardens to enjoy.
Casa Mission shares space with the Free Tequila Tours company. When you enter the gated property, you will make an immediate left to see the tequila exhibits. I have toured their displays with other families, minors do not seem to be a problem, and the exhibits give an interesting history of the liquor. Adults can taste many varieties at the conclusion of the self-guided displays and as you would expect, it is sales focused. But back to the real reason we are here, the food!
We enjoyed a buffet for a special event here that had a variety of Mexican specialties. Other times we have attended alone and ordered off their substantial menu. Nothing has been a disappointment. My family particularly looks forward to their huge coconut shrimp and the coconut dipping sauce served with those. The sopa de lima or lime soup is always excellent. Usually, I order their beef fajitas. I am a huge fan of flan wherever I go and I do love theirs, too. The one thing that you don’t want to overlook on their menu is the Sexy Coffee. This is a coffee with liquor that is served in flames and with a flourish. They will dim the lights and the showmanship begins. Make sure that an adult in your group splurges on this and then have your camera ready.
Everywhere there is a step, they have a ramp. You don’t even need to look around for one, it will be there right where you need it. The tables and chairs have enough space to navigate around and the chairs can be removed if you prefer. This is a location that you will want to take a taxi to. The island does have several van taxis and even a few special wheelchair-lift van taxis. When you call to arrange transport, just be clear about what you need. It will sometimes take a little longer for a specially equipped taxi to arrive, but you are on island time. The restaurant can assist you with calling for a taxi at the end of your meal and staff have even walked out to the main road to flag one down for us when it was a rainy night and taxis were particularly busy. If you have a foldable wheelchair and can transfer to a standard car, there are usually taxis waiting outside the gates in a queue.
It’s a really pleasant experience and so peaceful. Enjoy your time here and just remember to get an adult to order that Sexy Coffee.
